A Testimonial
I’ve known Bill for several years, and I knew he could help me with
the problems I’d been having ascending the register. Although
my chops were relaxed and my sound was big and open, it quickly
diminished when I played above the staff. I knew if I could
just get Bill in front of me for a few days, he could figure out
what was going on.
So, I flew Bill to California for a 3-day Intensive Lesson.
My goal was to have him figure out what I was doing wrong. I was not
concerned about learning to play high notes. I just wanted to play
with a consistent sound and a connected range. His goal was to get
me up to high “C” the proper way by the end of the lessons.
Halfway through the second day, both of our goals were achieved-
and then some! My sound was big and open, my chops were relaxed, and
Bill got me to ascend up to high “C” a few times and stab high “G”
several times. On the third day, I was able to stab high “C” a
few times, and was able to ascend to “E”, while still playing with a
big, open sound and a connected range. Now, I sound like a
trumpet player.
My Intensive Lesson was one of the most rewarding and satisfying
things I have done in a long time.
Bill knows what he is doing, and I highly recommend him for any
of the various types of lessons he offers.

P.S. Not only is Bill an excellent teacher, he’s a very nice guy
who is also a lot of fun to just hang out with. And, by the way,
Bill can play- and I’m not just referring to blowing high notes. We
went to dinner at a nearby BBQ smokehouse that features authentic
southern blues. We got to talking with the band and they asked him
to sit in. After going back to my house to get his horn, Bill joined
the band. His playing was really hot. He can really let the blues
fly, with some tastefully-done high notes. The energy level in the
place went up by 500%, and a small crowd was gathering to watch. The
band loved it and the crowd really loved it.
